UPDATE: 1/4/2010 4:26pm

Thank-you citizens of Thurston, Lewis, Mason and Grays Harbor for your help and donations for the Fire Victim Families during Christmas. The generosity of people have been truly amazing! The families have received an outpour of clothing, kitchen appliances and furniture. We have been able to put together a nice beginning and look now to getting things for the families that were not donated. For people still interested in helping the Family you can still donate cash and/or gift cards. You may drop off your cash or gift card donation to West Thurston Fire (Rochester or Littlerock Fire Department). Please call Lt. Lanette Dyer for questions. 360-352-1614

UPDATE: 12/30/2009 11:10pm

An account has been opened at Key Bank in the name of Flutz-Valenta. Donations may be made at any Key Bank branch. Click here for a Key Bank branch locator.

Q: What can I do to help?

A: Cash donations are the best as they do not have a home yet to put furniture in. Cash and checks can come to Rochester or Littlerock Station. Checks MUST be payable to "LITTLEROCK FIREFIGHTER ASSOC". For tax purposes checks cannot be made payable to the fire district. Please memo the check for "Flutz-Valenta Family". We will then in turn give them the donation. You can also donate other items. Anything will help, as they lost absolutely everything.

Press Release

Rochester, WA December 25, 2009 -- A family of eight was left homeless yesterday when fire destroyed their Prather Rd home. The fire broke out approximately 7:00pm in the 6200 block of Prather Rd. SW. Firefighters responded after a neighbor saw flames from the home and called 911. The first arriving unit reported the two story, 900 sq. foot home had a fully involved roof and 2nd story. West Thurston RFA, Riverside RFA, Tenino Fire and Mclane/Black Lake Fire responded with tenders and engine companies, Battalions, aid units, rehab and Medic Unit.

A 21 year old male was transported to Centralia Providence for a minor burn to the face. The family was able to escape but lost everything in the fire. It was reported the house was equipped with working smoke alarms, however, unfortunately the home and belongings had no insurance and is a total loss.

Volunteers from the American Red Cross in Thurston County responded to provide assistance. The family was offered temporary shelter in a nearby motel and funds for food and clothing. The family consisted of 2 parents, 3 adult children (21 to 31 y/o), and 3 children (1, 2 ½ , and 16).

Please call Lt. Lanette Dyer (PIO), West Thurston Regional Fire Authority, with any questions or to learn how you can help. Cell: 360-701-4593.
