John Jr. is a special young man who liked to collect things like fire trucks and Seahawks stuff. John had a bed set, pictures and lots of memorabilia from the Seahawks. All of his brand new Christmas stuff and even a brand new winter coat with Seahawks on it was lost in the fire... If you have spare Seahawk merchandise or fire truck that you would like to donate, or have new or gently warn clothes that this family could use please call West Thurston Fire Sta 1-2 or come by either the Rochester or Littlerock Station and drop it off. Thank-you for your generosity. Contact: West Thurston Fire Lt. Lanette Dyer 360-352-1614
Rochester, WA January 8, 2010 -- A family of three was left homeless this morning when fire destroyed their 187th Ave. house. The fire broke out approximately 3:20AM in the 7400 block of 187th Ave. SW. Firefighters responded after the homeowner and her son fled to their neighbors and called 911. The first arriving unit reported the doublewide, 1400 sq. foot mobile home had heavy smoke and flames showing. West Thurston RFA, Riverside Fire Authority, Tenino Fire, East Olympia Fire and Mclane/Black Lake Fire responded with tenders, engine companies, battalions, aid units, rehab and air supply, In all over 30 firefighters responded to fight the fire and render aid to one of the family members.
The 30 year old disabled son became the hero today when he woke to the smoke just after 3 this morning and proceeded to wake his mother, get the dog and during the evacuation also thought to shut the power off. The son was treated and released from Centralia Providence with smoke inhalation. The family reported the house was not equipped with working smoke alarms. The home is insured. The fire cause is being investigated.
The American Red Cross was called. We will be posting the size clothes and types of donations that are needed to the fire department website: www.westthurstonfire.org Just follow the "latest news link" to get information on all our families that lost everything this holiday season.
