Smoke Detectors Save a Rochester Mom and Her 3 Children
Thursday, 22 September 2011 00:00

Rochester, WA September 22, 2011

West Thurston Fire responded to a Structure Fire call when a mother and her children awoke to a loud noise and then the home smoke detectors went off. The fire, located near Starlit and 196th SW, was called in at 11:39pm and firefighters arrived at 11:46. The fire was extinguished at 11:50pm with damage reporting to be under $10,000.

Firefighter training and station placement is key to help protect our citizens, but the biggest lesson here is that smoke alarms work when they are in your home and tested regularly. A fire coming from the dryer in the laundry room was the cause of the flames and does not appear suspicious. The family stayed at a nearby hotel last night and there are no injuries to report.
