West Thurston Firefighters responded to 3 structure fires late night Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
The first incident was a response with Thurston County Fire District #12 at 9:23pm on Tuesday evening to a reported barn fire in the 16800 block of Tilley Rd S outside Tenino. Firefighters were on the scene with crews from Fire District #12, #6 and #16 for two hours while extinguishing the fire.
A second structure fire was reported in the 2800 block of 76th Ave SW south of Tumwater just after 4:00am Wednesday in which firefighters from West Thurston Regional Fire, Tumwater Fire and McLane Black Lake Fire responded. The initial information was a fire from around the furnace area of a single family residence. Upon arrival light smoke was found in the residence and the fire was contained to the furnace area. The cause was determined to be electrical in the furnace unit. Two occupants were transported by ambulance to St. Peters Hospital in Olympia for smoke inhalation.
A third structure fire was reported in the 9100 block of 173rd Ave SW in Rochester at 5:25am Wednesday. The occupants were awakened by the smoke detectors activating inside their residence. Upon investigating they found fire to be coming out of the wall behind the chimney of a single story residence. Arriving crews found active fire burning in two walls behind the chimney and smoke throughout the house. Firefighters from West Thurston were able contained the fire to the immediate area around the wall. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
