Significant weather event produces large call volume
Thursday, 19 January 2012 15:48

West Thurston Regional Fire Authority, which covers a response area of 168 square miles in the Southwest Region of Thurston County, has responded to about 60 non-priority calls involving power lines down and trees across the road starting at approximately 6:00am with the initial phase of calls lasting until approximately 1:30pm. The volume of calls required WTRFA to activate their self-sustained Emergency Operations Center (EOC) due to an overload of calls to the Thurston County 911 Communications Center.

One female operating a semi northbound on I-5 at about milepost 87 was injured when a tree fell onto her moving truck. Her injuries were non-life threatening and she was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Area residents affected by trees and power lines down are encouraged to keep a safe distance from the downed lines and assume they are energized until Puget Sound Energy has declared it safe.

We would also like to remind the citizens of West Thurston Regional Fire response area to contact 911 for any needed emergencies.
