Patriot Day is held in memory of nearly 3000 people who died during terrorist attacks in New York, Washington DC and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, in the United States.
ROCHESTER, WA-- On September 11, 2001, four planes were hijacked. The hijackers then deliberately flew three of the planes into two important buildings, the Pentagon in Washington DC and the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York. The fourth crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The loss of life and damage that these hijackings caused form the biggest act of terrorism ever on United States soil. Nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks and the economic impact was immense. It is important to take time out to hold prayers or thoughts for the victims and families of the attacks. This event and special day does not usually affect life for more than a few minutes, but it is important to take those few minutes to remember the effect.
Many members of the community joined us for the ceremony September 11, 2011 at 8:30am to honor those who lost their lives and the 343 Firefighters and Law Enforcement who gave their lives that day protecting others. Mills and Mills Memorial Park was gracious in helping to make this a spectacular event on this special "Patriot Day". They lent us 343; 9'x5' flags that were set in the ground on 12’ poles to act as a reminder of the friends, brothers and sister that fell that fateful day. We will remind all Americans that their country remained strong in the face of massive terrorist attacks.

Over the past months, the West Thurston RFA has conducted a strategic planning process. This document represents the efforts of many and has been developed with involvement from all levels of the agency. The plan reflects West Thurston's commitment to the process of working better together, and recognizing our dependence on the success of each member. The plan illustrates the West Thurston RFA philosophy, values and goals. Successful implementation will be dependent upon the full involvement of the membership.
Purpose
This strategic plan serves as the agency's master document; compiling, organizing and presenting results collected from various planning and administrative processes. The information contained within provides a clear and concise overview of the most recently adopted goals, objectives, budgetary commitments, and assessment of the agency's activities.
This document offers a set of concepts, procedures and strategies designed to assist the membership and management in exercising control, coping with change and developing a basis for decision making. Utilizing this plan will assist in fundamental decision making and will define agency actions that shape and guide what West Thurston is, what it does, and why it does it.
A reasonable attempt has been made to effectively analyze internal and external factors; sometimes critically. However, this analysis is neither criticism for its own sake nor an attempt to develop a document that avoids challenging analysis with aimless, fluffy commentary and lofty, unrealizable goals. This document is established as a means of providing honest, continual agency improvement.
