Sept 11th Tribute Ceremony
Tuesday, 13 September 2011 10:37

Patriot Day is held in memory of nearly 3000 people who died during terrorist attacks in New York, Washington DC and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, in the United States.

ROCHESTER, WA-- On September 11, 2001, four planes were hijacked. The hijackers then deliberately flew three of the planes into two important buildings, the Pentagon in Washington DC and the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York. The fourth crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The loss of life and damage that these hijackings caused form the biggest act of terrorism ever on United States soil. Nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks and the economic impact was immense. It is important to take time out to hold prayers or thoughts for the victims and families of the attacks. This event and special day does not usually affect life for more than a few minutes, but it is important to take those few minutes to remember the effect.

Many members of the community joined us for the ceremony September 11, 2011 at 8:30am to honor those who lost their lives and the 343 Firefighters and Law Enforcement who gave their lives that day protecting others. Mills and Mills Memorial Park was gracious in helping to make this a spectacular event on this special "Patriot Day". They lent us 343; 9'x5' flags that were set in the ground on 12’ poles to act as a reminder of the friends, brothers and sister that fell that fateful day. We will remind all Americans that their country remained strong in the face of massive terrorist attacks.
