The Fire Investigation Team was formed in October 2004. Our goal is to investigate fires to determine their origin and cause, and to prevent future incidents from reoccurring. Part of our role is to educate the public about potential fire dangers.
Our current team consists of Captain Gary Stone, Firefighter Bob Maser, and Firefighter Rob Smith.
Captain Stone has been with the Fire Investigation Team since it was first established, and became the Team Leader in 2006. He is a Nationally Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator through the National Association of Fire Investigators, and a Certified Fire Inspector through the National Fire Protection Agency.
Firefighter Bob Maser joined the Fire Investigation Team in 2006. In the spring of 2006 he attended the Fire Investigation Basic course. He has also taken numerous courses through FEMA, the National Fire Academy, and the International Association of Arson Investigators working towards his certification.
Firefighter Rob Smith has also been with the Fire Investigation Team since 2006. Rob attended the Fire Investigation Basic course in May 2008, and has taken numerous courses through FEMA, the National Fire Academy, and the International Association of Arson Investigators.
Being a Fire Investigator requires a great deal of commitment and continuous training. It can be very time consuming to investigate a fire, interview witnesses, document the fire, and write a report of the findings. It is, however, a commitment we are willing to make to keep our community and its members safe.
