3rd Brent Strong 5k- Saturday, Sept 14th, 2019
Sept 14th, 2019 marked the third year for the annual Brent Strong 5k Walk and Run, with friends, family, and first responders this was a race no one could forget! Remembering the fallen we honor the memory of Capt Brent Strong and dedicated supporter Brad Joslin.
In previous years Brad Joslin could be seen running this race rain or shine, supporting his family and the West Thurston team honoring the memory of Capt Brent Strong. In spirit Brad continued to join us as loved ones displayed memorials for both Brent and Brad near the finish line.

With grey skies and no rain the volunteers arrived at Marathon Park ready to begin setting up for the day. Gathering supplies and mingling with friends the participants and volunteers prep for the upcoming race at 10am. As the start time approaches 32 runners find their place near the start line gathering around to listen to the tales of remembrance for the fallen. Speeches dwindle down as racers prepare for the race countdown 3...2...1... Go! As the race goes on, one by one they make their way to the finish line until there is no one left on the course. All gather around to cheer on the prize winners as the day comes to a swift end. With the warm support from the racers and the staff lingering in the air, volunteers pack away each item until all that remains is the trace of a trampled finish line. Together we remember those who lived their lives to serve their community. Thank you all for your continued support!
Always Strong we remember..

2018
2nd Brent Strong 5k- Sunday, Jan 21, 2018
Jan 21st, 2018 marked the second year for the annual Brent Strong 5k Walk and Run. With crazy weather, furry friends, first responders, and their supporters this was a race no one could forget!

The day started off at 730am, in thick coats volunteers arrived to Heritage Park ready to begin setting up for the day. With high winds and freezing rain shaking the tents from their stakes racers began to arrive for registration. 10am quickly approaches as 66 runners find their place near the start line. Racers and staff alike begin to run in place to keep warm as the weather takes a turn for the worst. "1...2...3... GO!" The race begins!
As the race goes on, the minutes feel like hours as the weather rapidly declines. With noses blue and hands cold, each racer rushes as quickly as they can through the finish line, seeking shelter under tent cover. One by one they make their way back to the finish line until there is no one left on the course. Leaving nothing left but sloshed foot prints as a reminder of the efforts made there that cold Sunday morning.

Although unbearably cold, the support from the racers and the staff could warm anyone's heart as we all joined together to remember those who lived their lives to serve their community. Always Strong we remember..

2016
1st Brent Strong 5k- Saturday, October 1, 2016
October 1st, 2016 marked the first year for the annual Brent Strong 5k Walk and Run. This year was particularly special, as it was the first ever Brent Strong 5k Walk and run!

The day started off at 730am, as volunteers arrived to Millersylvania State Park. Shortly after staff, first responders, racers, and the Firefighter Cancer Support Network prepare for swiftly approaching 5k. Surrounded by tall trees and serene hiking trails 46 racers find their place near the start line. "1...2...3... GO!" The race begins!
Drizzling and cool one by one the racers disappear into the distant treeline. Over roots and around bends each racer makes their way through the kept trails, and one by one they make their way around the turn, avoiding the puddles, back to the finish line.
With each memorable moment we are left with stories of resilience, honor, and devotion, each story living on through the hearts and minds of those who were fortunate enough to take part in it. The support from the racers and the staff are what made that day special as we all joined together to remember those who lived their lives to serve their community. Always Strong we remember..
